Williams House

Keith Banffshire 2015

This new-build occupies the site of a former croft and steading, the building cluster responding to ground conditions, orientation and a client brief set on constructing a straw bale home. Winter wheat bales come from the client’s own land and labour, as does the striking birch flooring  and reclaimed stone. The infill construction for the house is designed to work with the straw bale module, minimising the need to modify bale sizes.  Soft, textured lime rendered walls contrast with high level rainscreen cladding, the latter echoed in the crisply clad outbuildings.
